  Greetings from the NYSCMA!

  • Mid-Year Association Update
  •

With the Independence Day holiday weekend approaching, we have reached the halfway point in 2008. This is a good opportunity to review the accomplishments and growth experienced by the NYSCMA, and preview the course for the remainder of the year.

Membership - With the addition of Unilock and Domine Builders Supply, our Producer Member count stands at 16. We have also added three Associate members (Hiab, Inc., BASF Admixtures, and Reller Risk Management). The newly formed Membership Committee is Co-Chaired by Bob Rucker and Joe Kowalewski, and they and the committee members are hard at work recruiting new members. The Association and the Board of Directors are also striving to continue developing and administering programs that provide value which also contribute to increased membership.

OSHA Alliance - Our alliance with OSHA and NYS On-Site Consultation is now in fourth year, and shows no sign of slowing. Final plans are underway for our third Safety Workshop for the year, with a fourth to follow at the Fall Member Development Conference.

Spring Conference - The 2008 edition of the Spring Conference was one of the most successful and well attended in recent memory. Approximately 75% of our members attended one or both days of the conference. The Masonry Tech Day and Trade Show, conducted on the second day of the two day seminar, attracted over 120 design professionals from NYS agencies and the private sector and NYSCMA members.

Architectural Sales Seminar - Our newest program, designed to sharpen the sales skills of NYSCMA Producer and Associate members alike has begun with a most successful first seminar. The Association partnered with expert sales consultant Bob Frare, and long time friend to the NYSCMA, David Biggs, P.E., who teamed together to bring the "best of both worlds" to the first session. From David, we learned what is really important to an architect, and what the design professional's expectations are of the salesperson. Bob shared his expertise and provided the sales "know - how". By popular demand, this program will become a continuing series, and plans are well underway for the next phases, where we will roll out two new PowerPoint presentations for use by the members.

F'm2000 Assurance of Quality Program - Participating members are reporting that the number of design professionals who specify F'm2000 is on the increase, as are the number of projects. We will soon initiate a user friendly reporting process so that we can more accurately track F'm2000 projects and measure the progress of the program. If you are not currently participating in this very important program, contact me right away for more information.

Presentations for Design Professionals - The Association has built up its architectural resources, and has increased direct contact with design professionals. If you would like to make a joint call or arrange for a luncheon PowerPoint presentation, contact me and we can select a mutually convenient date.

There is much to do, including planning for the annual Fall Member Development Conference, so don't sit on the sidelines - get involved! Volunteer, join a committee, or simply contact me with your suggestions. The NYSCMA is your association, so jump in and participate!
